Laser Therapy Q & A

What is laser therapy?

Laser therapy is one of the innovative, noninvasive tools the team at Wine Country Chiropractic uses to support the body’s natural healing process. They use a special medical laser from LiteCure. This laser uses low-level laser energy to stimulate activity at the cellular level.

This type of laser therapy, also known as cold laser therapy or low-level laser therapy (LLLT), penetrates the skin without causing any tissue damage.

The damaged cells under the skin absorb the light from the laser energy, initiating a series of events within the cell that helps heal the damaged tissue. That activity reduces pain, inflammation, and swelling and increases cellular metabolism, speeding up the healing process.

Am I a candidate for laser therapy?

The team at Wine Country Chiropractic conducts a comprehensive evaluation when you come in for care to determine the right treatment for you. They take a holistic approach to care, focusing on how they can treat your whole health, not your painful condition.

They may recommend laser therapy to treat:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Unspecified joint pain
  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder
  • Spinal pain
  • Sports injuries

The team may also consider you a candidate for laser therapy if you have ongoing joint or nerve pain and you want a non-drug treatment to ease your discomfort.

What happens during laser therapy?

Laser therapy is a quick and painless treatment the team performs at the office. They customize your laser therapy treatment plan based on the underlying cause of your pain.

During therapy, the team has you sit and relax in the exam chair. They place the handheld laser tool on your skin over the area where you have pain and deliver the laser energy.

Your provider keeps the laser tool on your skin for a few seconds or a few minutes, depending on the type of injury you have.

You can resume your usual activities after your session. Laser therapy stimulates your body’s natural repair process; however, healing takes time, and they recommend two to four treatments a week for up to four weeks to get the best results.
